Althea Bess-Douglas

Althea Bess-DouglasDirector, Clinical Services, Responsive Health Management Inc.

Althea has continuously grown in her career at Responsive since joining our team in 2002. She started as a Nurse Manager, a position that provided valuable hands-on experience and prepared her for the position of Director of Nursing in two Responsive homes. Always open to new challenges, Althea moved into a nurse consultant role and is now in her current position of Director of Clinical Services for the Responsive Health Management homes. This provides the opportunity to further develop her strong, clinical mentorship and coaching skills while working in collaboration with the nursing teams in the homes to achieve quality care for our residents.

Actively engaged in the long term care community, Althea is a member of the Ontario Long Term Care Association and enjoys participating in a variety of internal committees, including the Quality Council, Manager of Clinical Informatics (MCI) and Joint Director of Nursing committees. Prior to working in the long term care sector, she worked as a neurosurgery nurse for three years and has been a registered nurse for almost 15 years. Althea has a diploma from the nursing program at Humber College and has completed the administrator course offered by the Ontario Association of Homes and Non-Profit Services for Seniors (OAHNSS).

Born in Montreal, Althea is fluent in both English and French. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends. Her favourite pastimes are reading and singing. One of the highlights of her week is teaching Sunday school to the toddlers at her church.
